PhotoCraft for WindowsFree download for Windows 10 and 11 · x64, ARM64 and 32-bit

PhotoCraft runs on Windows as a native, GPU-accelerated app: layers, masks, adjustment layers and real PSD files, with no Electron or web view underneath. Pick the MSI installer for a Start menu entry and file associations, or the portable zip to run it from any folder or USB stick.

System requirements

What you need to run PhotoCraft on Windows

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • x64 for most Intel and AMD PCs; ARM64 for Snapdragon and other ARM laptops; a 32-bit (x86) build for older systems.
  • A graphics driver with DirectX 12 or Vulkan: PhotoCraft draws the canvas on the GPU, so keep the driver up to date.
  • No administrator rights for the default “Only for me” install.

Install guide

How to install PhotoCraft on Windows

Install with the MSI (recommended)

  1. Download the MSI. Use the button above. Snapdragon laptops take the ARM64 MSI from the list instead.
  2. Choose who gets PhotoCraft. Double-click the file. “Only for me” installs without a UAC prompt into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\ArtCraft\PhotoCraft; “Everyone on this computer” installs into Program Files and asks for administrator approval.
  3. Finish and launch. Keep “Launch PhotoCraft” ticked on the last page. Later, start it from the Start menu or press Win+R and type photocraft.
  4. Open your files. The installer adds PhotoCraft to “Open with” for PSD, PSB and image files and makes it the default app for .pcraft documents.

Install silently (IT and scripts)

  1. Per-user, no prompts. Run from a terminal in the download folder:
    msiexec /i photocraft-0.17.0-windows-x64.msi /qn
  2. For every user. Add ALLUSERS=1 from an elevated terminal to install into Program Files:
    msiexec /i photocraft-0.17.0-windows-x64.msi /qn ALLUSERS=1

Run the portable zip

  1. Unzip anywhere. Extract photocraft-0.17.0-windows-x64-portable.zip to a folder you own, then start photocraft.exe. Nothing is written to Program Files and there is no Start menu entry.

Keep it current

Update, uninstall and verify

Update. Download the newer MSI and run it: it upgrades the copy installed in the same scope (per-user or per-machine) in place. To switch scope, uninstall first.
Uninstall. Settings › Apps › Installed apps › PhotoCraft › Uninstall. A portable copy is removed by deleting its folder.
Check the download. Compare the hash with the line for your file in SHA256SUMS.txt from the same release:
Get-FileHash .\photocraft-0.17.0-windows-x64.msi -Algorithm SHA256

FAQ

PhotoCraft for Windows FAQ

Is PhotoCraft for Windows free?

Yes. PhotoCraft is open source under MIT or Apache-2.0. The Windows installer and portable builds are free, and every button here links to the official GitHub release.

Do I need administrator rights to install PhotoCraft?

No. The default “Only for me” install goes into your user profile without a UAC prompt. Only the “Everyone on this computer” option, or msiexec with ALLUSERS=1, needs an administrator.

Which file do I need on a Snapdragon laptop?

Use photocraft-0.17.0-windows-arm64.msi or the ARM64 portable zip. They run natively on Windows on ARM instead of through x64 emulation.

Is the PhotoCraft installer signed?

Yes. The upstream project code-signs the MSI and the executables. Windows may still ask for confirmation for a newly released file; check that the download came from github.com/storytold/photocraft and that its SHA-256 matches SHA256SUMS.txt.
